Fiance upset over someone else cutting grass???

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Okay here is what is going on–

Our riding lawnmower broke about 10 days ago. We can’t find a belt that fits it, so we had to order one. It has been about 10 days since our lawn was cut- we have over half an acre of grass.
Today I got fed up with the insanely long grass and weeds and the shabbiness of the yard, so I called a lawncare place to get someone over to cut the lawn till our mower is fixed. It is going to be $30 to totally do the yard- weeding, cutting the grass and trimming. So I booked the guy to come tomorrow. My fiance got home from work and I told him and he FLIPPED OUT. He started screaming about how it makes him feel lazy and worthless and that it’s like I said to him that he is so lazy he can’t cut his own lawn. Then he started wigging out about the $25 (which I am paying from tip money from work), and told me I basically told him hes a lazy worthless bum for not cutting the lawn.
I have NOOOOO clue what pissed him off so bad.
Help me sort this out with him- I told him thats totally not what I meant to do and that I just wanted it to be one less thing to worry about because he mentions every time we’re outside hwo bad the lawn looks that it would be one thing I could take care of for him.

What can I say to him to make him chill out?! he’s downstairs freaking out to his buddy about it… !!!

you are trying to do the right thing. my rider broke 2 years ago and my wife was gonna call a lawn service in. i said oh no you wont we still have a push mower, she said you dont have time, i said i will make time so i did, and you know what ? every week it takes me an hour and a half but i do it. its 3/4 of an acre but its better then having someone else do it . why? its a guy thing dont even try to understand. good luck.

When should I start digging up my carrots?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I have a few carrot shoulders poking out of the ground, but don’t know when I should start digging them up. My manual says to dig them up when they start poking out of the ground.. but then says to cut the green tips off and cover them w/ mulch for a winter harvest. I live in chicago. Any tips?????

Pull one up and see if it is big enough to eat. They get tougher as they get bigger to me. I like them small.
